Clinical Workflow
TEFLA® is designed around a controlled, role-based workflow to ensure clinical accountability and consistent examination outcomes across remote environments. The workflow includes defined responsibilities for the Patient, Attender, and Doctor.
User Roles & Responsibilities
- Patient: Participates in testing and responds to visual prompts as instructed.
- Attender: Prepares the device, supports patient positioning, and assists with lens handling as directed.
- Doctor: Conducts the examination remotely through the clinical portal and issues the final prescription.
Pre-Examination Preparation
- Ensure the device is charged and powered on.
- Confirm stable internet connectivity for the device and mobile application.
- Sanitise patient-contact surfaces before use.
- Create or select the patient profile in the Attender application.
- Verify video consultation readiness (camera, audio, and permissions).
Visual Acuity Assessment
Visual acuity assessment is performed using optotypes rendered on the TEFLA display. The doctor controls optotype size and sequence through the portal while the attender maintains correct patient positioning and occlusion.
- Position the patient comfortably with stable head alignment.
- Perform monocular assessment as required (OD and OS).
- Record responses and proceed through acuity levels as directed.
Guided Subjective Refraction
Guided subjective refraction is performed iteratively using baseline refractive values entered into the system. Lens changes and refinements are carried out based on patient feedback, under doctor instruction.
- Enter baseline refraction values (if available) into the workflow.
- Apply trial lenses as directed and confirm patient comfort.
- Proceed through refinement steps until endpoint is achieved.
Prescription Generation & Delivery
After clinical completion, prescriptions are generated digitally through the doctor portal and stored in the system. The prescription is then made available to authorised users through the platform and may be delivered via configured electronic channels.
Post-Examination Steps
- Confirm that the prescription and notes have been saved.
- End the consultation session securely.
- Sanitise the device and accessories after patient use.
- Prepare the system for the next patient.
